PA Fair Report - Hughesville
Hughesville, PA --- A pair of track records fell at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds in Hughesville, PA on the final day of the annual two-day race meet, featuring freshman trotters and pacers.
Technically, three track standards were set, but one only lasted 15 minutes.
Cannot Tell A Lie (Glidemaster), driven by Chris Shaw for the Dunn Stable and trainer Boots Dunn, established a new record for 2-year-old trotting fillies, covering the mile in 2:04.4 to win a division of the PASS filly trot. In the very next race, stablemate Desired Outcome (Tom Ridge), with Roger Hammer at the lines, lowered the mark to 2:04.1. The Dunn Stable then completed a sweep of the filly trot with Barefoot Brook (Cantab Hall), a 2:07.4 winner for Hammer.
Later in the afternoon, Nuclear Photo, a Nuclear Breeze filly out of the Joe Offutt barn, set a new record for freshman pacing fillies in a PA Sire Stake event, timed in 2:02. Joe and Bernard Offutt own the winner.
In other action, Seth First (Stonebridge Regal) won the lone division of the 2-year-old Quaker Pace for owners Seth, Fred and Dorothy Dowling. Steve Schoeffel trains and drove the winner to a 2:03.4 win. In the Quaker Trot, Stone Valley (SJ’s Caviar) won in 2:14.1 for his first career win. Cory Kreiser owns and drove.
In PA Sire Stake colt trotting action MM’s Yankee was a 2:06.4 winner for trainer/driver Bill Daugherty. Jack and Sharon Claypoole own the Malabar Millennium colt. Gearbox Hanover, a gelded son of SJ’s Caviar, won the second division in 2:08.2 for owners Joe and Chris Offutt. Joe trains, while Chris was in the bike. Daugherty returned to the winners circle for the final division, guiding Bob And Bobby (Andover Hall) to a 2:08.1 win. Susan Daugherty owns the three-time winner.
In freshman colt pacing events, victories were earned by High Street (Metropolitan), Nate Breeze (Nuclear Breeze) and Police Car (Yankee Cruiser). High Street, owned and trained by Jim Ray, earned his first career victory by pacing in 2:03.4 with Todd Schadel at the helm. Nate Breeze, trained and reined by Hammer, paced in 2:03.3. Hammer co-owns with Vicki Fair. Police Car, owned by Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel, Jim Reuther and Jim Nelson, covered his mile in 2:03.1 for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel.
Four groups of filly pacers completed the 15-race card. After Nuclear Photo’s track record, Argument Hanover won for the first time this season, pacing in 2:05.4. Jim Dodson, driving in just his eighth career race, picked up the first win of his career. Ron Lineweaver owns and trains the Yankee Cruiser filly.
The final two races went to Hammer stable entrants, as Paints Hall (Blissfull Hall) and Hot Latte (Nuclear Breeze) were winners. Paints Hall, owned by Hammer and Frank Dettore, paced in 2:03.1. Hot Latte, owned solely by Hammer, equaled her lifetime mark of 2:06.3.
