Bettor Cover Lover settled in well and ready

Top harness racing mare Bettor Cover Lover has settled in well at the Woodend property of Dave and Cath Butt and is set to trial at Addington Raceway next Monday (January 16) according to co-trainer Brent Mangos.

The North Island horseman accompanied his stable star on a flight from Auckland to Christchurch in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"She's been here and done it all before and has settled in really well. We'll give her a run at Addington next Monday and that should have her pretty right for Friday night's race," he said. The winner of 12 races and more than $600,000 in stakes, Bettor Cover Lover will take in the $40,000 Group Two Caduceus Mares Championship (January 20) as well as the $100,000 Group One Breeders Stakes (February 4) while in Canterbury.

Bettor Cover Lover produced the greatest harness racing feelgood story for 2011 by returning from a near death career-ending injury to defeat arch-rival Carabella first-up at Alexandra Park, winning the $100,000 Group One Queen Of Hearts. Her emotional return to the winners circle caused Mangos, the connections and many harness racing fans to shed a tear of joy at the unbelievable result.

The daughter of Bettor's Delight will again do battle with Carabella and De Lovely over the following few weeks, which should give Canterbury race-goers good reason to flood Addington Raceway to witness one of the great rivalries in the female division.

For Mangos the trip South has been saddened by the loss of his father Doug Mangos suddenly, with the funeral also taking place yesterday in Christchurch.
