Palone adds three more Reynolds wins at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA--Dana’s Sharp Smart and Magnum Kosmos produced the fastest times in their respective classes in Saturday night’s (July 9) W.N. Reynolds Memorial Stakes action at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

The Reynolds races are the highlight of Grand Circuit Week at the track.

On Saturday night, there were three “Tar Heel” divisions of the Reynolds held for 3-year-old colts and geldings on the pace, with purses ranging from $25,967 to $26,367. There were also two “Scott Frost” divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings, each with a purse of $33,350.

Dana’s Sharp Smart (Allamerican Native-Lar's Princess) righted himself from a recent slump with a rallying victory in his Tar Heel division in 1:51.1. Dave Palone did the driving for trainer Linda Toscano and owner Stanley Kaufman. In other Tar Heel action, Mc Rusty (Mcardle-Barely Legal), driven by George Napolitano Jr. and trained by Steve Elliott for co-owners Martha Frank and Carter Racing Stable, won his split in 1:51.3, while Hone The Razor (Blissfull Hall-Barb L Shop), with Matt Kakaley doing the driving for trainer George Teague Jr. and co-owners Gary and Barbara Iles, captured a division in 1:52.2.

Magnum Kosmos (SJ's Caviar-Mega Magic Vita) was a dominant force in the Scott Frost, winning his split by 8-3/4 lengths in 1:54. Palone did the driving for trainer Tony Dinges and The Wiz Kids Stable.

Palone also led Opening Night (Broadway Hall-Rare Elegance), trained by Jim Campbell for Runthetable Stables, to a victory in the other Scott Frost split in 1:54.2. Palone’s three stakes wins on the night came on the heels of four Reynolds wins on Friday.

Grand Circuit Week concludes at Pocono on Tuesday night with Reynolds races for 2-year-old colts and geldings on the pace and 3-year-old fillies on the trot.
