Nine NYSS 3ct Divisions on tap Tuesday at Monticello

In what can be billed as a day for the sport's purists, Monticello Raceway will present nine divisions of sophomore trotting colts and geldings in the rich New York Sire Stakes program on Tuesday afternoon. That day the 3-year-old trotters will race for a total purse of nearly $180,000.

"When you are the first leg of a new Sire Stakes season the horses come from near and far to test the waters, so to speak, and we’ve gotten entrants from local trainers, from those in the Midwest, and even from Canada," noted Eric Warner, the track's director of racing. "In all we’ll present nine divisions of the future trotting stars, some of whom may even become Hambletonian entrants."

On Tuesday the NYSS events will be in races one, two, four, five, six, eight, nine, 11 and 12 with each division racing for nearly $20,000.

Of course with big purses and future possibilities some big name drivers will also be on hand for the competition. Among those with driving assignments are Ray Schnittker, Jeff Gregory, Cat Manzi, Brian Sears, George Bennan, Andy Miller, David Miller, Jason Bartlett, and the Mighty M stalwarts, Zeke Parker and Bruce Aldrich Jr.

As many of the 3 year olds are beginning their sophomore campaigns it may be a bettor's delight with the colts and geldings coming in from all over with many who will be making their seasonal debuts on a double oval which may make some false favorites to the delight of the savvy gambler.

Among the outstanding sophomores slated to compete are the Canadian-trained House Of Cash; George Teague Jr.'s Sing Out; the Larry Remmen-trained Keenan; Per Henricksen’s I’m The Man; Trond Smedshammer's I’m The Answer; Schnittker's Whitewater Rapids; Midwest trainer Homer Hochstetler’s Evil Urges; the Ed Hart-trained Tober; and Sam Schillaci’s Pay The Winner to mention a few.

Post time for the 13-race card on Tuesday will be at 12:50 p.m. (Monticello)
