JK Lullabye in Presidents' Day upset at Dover

Tuesday, February 17, 2009  By: Dover Downs

JK Lullabye pulled an upset in the $37,500 Delaware Special, while Sharky Osborne streaked to a 1:52.1 victory in the $32,000 Open Handicap at Dover Downs on President's Day.

Corey Callahan found room along the "Dover Driveway" driving Todd Wise's 6-1 shot JK Lullabye to get up in the closing strides. Steeler and Eric Goodell had led until reaching the finish line. Hot N sporty, the race favorite, was a close up third with Tony Morgan in the bike. An altered son of Bettor's Delight-JK Lady Like, JK Lullabye posted his first win of the season along with a second and three thirds in seven races and earnings of $31,870 in 2009.

In only his second start after a brief rest at the end of last year, Gary Minner and Pete Richardson's Sharky Osborne, last season's Horse of the Meet, returned to winning form with a near wire-to-wire 1:52.1 victory with Goodell holding the reins. The Josh Green-conditioned Cam's Card Shark-Shady Past gelding finished second beaten a head last week. Cool Cal enjoyed a two-hole trip with Tim Tetrick to finish second. George At Bigs closed well for Callahan for third-place.

Fields Of Honour A rolled down the passing lane with Vic Kirby to overtake Floyd Bromac N (Tetrick) in the last steps for a 1:52.3 victory in the $26,000 winners-over pace. Carter Racing Stable and trainer Bobby Myers own the Fake Left-Classic Garry gelding winning for the second time this year. That's Justice (Mark Gingrich) took show honors.

Mr. Apples and Jim Morand never looked back in a 1:51.4 triumph in the $22,000 male pace. The Teague Inc.-owned Bettor's Delight-Never In Paris 5 year old won for the second time this year. Mount Olympus was a strong second with Tetrick driving. Anglebrook and Goodell were the third finishers.

Kovach Stables and Teague Inc.'s Right To The Top and Morand waited until reaching the stretch before pouring in on to score a 1:53.2 triumph in a $19,000 pace. Sage's Image (Morgan) had led for most of the mile and stayed second. Tuneariffic (Eddie Davis Jr.) was third.

Cadence N, with Morgan driving the Mattuity-Sapporo Light gelding, sat behind battling Marty Tyme (Tetrick) and Mach Express N (Cole) until reaching the passing lane and then flew past the leaders for a 1:53.2 victory in the $16,500 male pace. Marty Time was second, Mach Express N a close-up third.

Larry Hughes' Artciano came from far back to overtake the leaders nearing the finish line for a 1:55.3 score in a $15,500 pace. Bret Brittingham was at the controls of the Artiscape-Armbro Awesome gelding in his first win of the year. Dream Job (Jon Roberts) was second with Athendoftheday N (Wolfenden) third. (Dover Downs)
