Trotting Fillies Impress In DSBF

Tuesday, April 1, 2014  By: Standardbred Canada
Race favourite Bellas Spunkin and second-choice Overnight Hit recorded wins in Tuesday’s second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund for three-year-old trotting fillies at Dover Downs.

Allan Davis drove Bellas Spunkin right to the lead and cut all the fractions en route to an easy 2:01.1 victory in the first of two $20,000 divisions. Oso Grateful (George Dennis) was second from the start with Gogh Gogh (Tony Morgan) third.

Stop The Jade Farm owns their homebred daughter of Super Punk-Nubella now is two-for-two this year for trainer Joe King.

Art Stafford, Jr. sat on the rail with Overnight Hit while favourite Kelseys Commando (Vic Kirby) took the lead on the backstretch. Trainer/driver Stafford pulled the Giant Hit-Overnight Rail filly to the outside and tracked down the leader to post a 1:58.2 victory for owners Stafford and Wally Starky. Kelseys Commando held on for second while Even Brighter (Bret Brittingham) closed to take third.

The DSBF top eight point-getters return next week for $100,000 finals.
