Chalk City In Jersey Girls Opener

Thursday, April 01, 2010  By: Standardbred Canada

Favourites ruled the roost in round one of the Jersey Girls Series at the Meadowlands, with LR Dancing Dream and Laughandbehappy grabbing top prize in their respective $20,000 divisions on Thursday.

Brian Sears guided LR Dancing Dream to a career-best clocking of 1:51.3 in the opening division, and in doing so the mare extended her win streak to three-in-a-row. Previously trained by Eric Abbatiello, the Ft Apache Hanover-Speeding Bunny miss had no problem keeping the ball rolling in her debut for trainer Lou Pena. She easily turned aside runner-up Idol and third-place finisher Dreams Bar.

KDM Stables Corp of Farmingdale, NY owns the 14-time winner, who has banked more than $145,000 in her career.

Laughandbehappy, who already has the $53,000 White Ruffles and the $60,000 Night Styles on her 2010 resume, notched her fifth win of the season thanks to a career-best clocking of 1:51.3 in the second division. John Campbell mapped out the winning trip for the Tony Alagna trainee, who defeated Midwestern Jatelo and Harper Lee.

The four-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover-Zinful, who has 17 wins in 22 lifetime starts, pushed her overall bankroll to $105,979 with the victory. She is owned in partnership by Let It Ride Stables Inc, Robert Cooper Stables LLC and Jerry Silva.
