Off a pocket ride, Fly Beyond shot to the lead in the stretch to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs on Sunday (June 21).

Sicario set the tempo through fractions of :28.3, :58.1 and 1:27.2 with Fly Beyond on his back. He raced under no pressure until the top of the stretch when Fly Beyond vacated pocket and darted to the lead while chased by 64-1 shot Horse Trader. Fly Beyond hit the finish one-and-a-half lengths better than Horse Trader with Sizzlen Hot Herbie finishing third.

A six-year-old gelding by Explosive Matter, Fly Beyond won his second race from eight starts this season and his ninth from 60 overall, earning $155,583. David Frey trains the $4.00 winner for owner 373818 Ontario Ltd. while Bob McClure sat in the sulky.

In the race following Major Hill wired his competition in the $11,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 Pace.

Driver Jonathan Drury sent the Carmen Auciello trainee to the top while Dreamfair Moxy rode in the pocket. Major Hill paced to the quarter in :27.1 and hit the half in :56.3 while odds-on favourite Mongolian Hero N edged first over. Up the backside Mongolian Hero N ranged closer to Major Hill passing three-quarters in 1:24.4 and applied minor pressure rounding the final turn before faltering into the stretch. Major Hill maintained command through the lane as Dreamfair Moxy charged out of the pocket late, but came a half-length shy of victory in a 1:52.4 mile. Pro Beach came from second over for third.

Owned by Percy Elkins, Major Hill won his third race from 14 starts this season and his 20th from 169 overall, earning $430,996. The seven-year-old Art Major gelding paid $13.20 to win.
