SHE is the filly that did not initially meet her reserve at the sales, but now Girl From Oz is a filly that will have owners from across the globe crossing their fingers for a Gold Tiara success story.

A member of Menangle Park trainer-driver Darren McCall's team, Girl From Oz is the second favourite to take out the Group 1, $100,000 final for two-year-old fillies at the Bathurst Paceway on Saturday night.

She was an ultra impressive heat winner - even though she did not sprint hard all the way to the post she still clocked a 15.64 mile rate and she won by 30.2m.

It was a run that gives McCall a chance to win his first major trophy at the annual Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival, not only as a trainer and driver, but a part-owner as well.

And that list of owners is a long one given the Heston Blue Chip x Girls Go Racing filly is part of the team from Canada's The Stable.ca.

It was founded by Anthony MacDonald and his wife Amy and offers people the chance to be part of a syndicate. They can own as little as one percent of a horse.

Girl From Oz and fellow Gold Tiara finalist Rockindownunder were purchased in Australia last year when MacDonald was on a talking tour.

"Anthony started this about four years ago ... the first year he got four horses, the next year he got 40, the year after that he's got 140. It's just phenomenal what they've done, I think he's now got over 800 owners and they are all over the world," McCall, who knew MacDonald from his time in North America, explained.

"He wanted to go to the sales when he was over here and I said if you're going to buy a couple you better give me one."

"We bidded on her in the ring, but we actually didn't get her, she didn't meet her reserve. So Anthony talked to the breeders after and told them what he was doing and what he would like to do and they said they'd sell her, but they'd stay in her for a quarter."

That decision has so far proved a good one for all parties involved as Girl From Oz won the Group 2 Pink Bonnet in just her second start and is now chasing the Gold Tiara.

She will go from barrier six and while that is a challenge, it's one McCall is confident she can overcome. Girl From Oz has handled tricky draws before.

"She's had three races now and three bad draws, she's had two sevens and a five and it hasn't worried her at all," he said.

"It's really cool because it not only shows that everyone can afford to own a horse, but she's a beauty too, it's even better because she's actually alright."

"One of the owners of this horse here is from Western Australia, he owns one percent and he is ecstatic. It cost him bugger all and he has fun."

"Another one of the owners, she owns four percent, is a girl called Alice Wear, she has autism."

"When she [Girl From Oz] won the Pink Bonnet, the breeders were good enough to give her the bonnet. She wore it as a sash across her shoulders all night, she went out to dinner with it the next night and she wore it to Sydney the next week for the Miracle Mile."

"When they gave it to her, the look in her eye, it was better than winning. The emotion on her face even though she owned four percent, it was great."It is emotion McCall hopes there will be a repeat of come Saturday night. The Gold Tiara Final is set for 8.22pm.
