A compact field of four faced the starting gate in Thursday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at Flamboro Downs, and the public’s top choice, Buttermilk Hanover, rallied to a popular win in 1:57.


Sent off as the 3-5 favouriteButtermilk Hanover got away third from Post 3 for driver Robert Shepherd while Tables Big Secret marched to the front and carved out first half fractions of :29 and :59.1. She was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.3, but Buttermilk Hanover was in hot pursuit from first over.


Buttermilk Hanover sprinted home in :28.2 for Shepherd, and that was good enough to earn her the win by three-quarters of a length over the pocket-sitting Outlaw Imahotvixen. Tables Big Secret settled for the show dough.


Melissa Lamoureux trains the seven-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover-Bet Me Hanover for 8113564 Canada Ltd of Sherwood Park, AB and Jeff Boyd of Cambridge, Ont. It was the third win of the season for the 26-time winner who pushed her lifetime earnings over $340,000 in the process.
