After spotting the leaders 12 lengths at the mid-way point of Thursday’s $17,000 pacing feature for filly and mare pacers, Lauras Love kicked it into gear late and stormed home in :28.3 to post a second straight victory for trainer John Pentland.

Lauras Love and driver Bob McClure, who rallied to a 1:59 triumph on Jan. 30 at the Campbellville, Ont. oval, used similar tactics to take down a new lifetime mark of 1:55.1 in Thursday’s follow-up assignment.

Shesonehotwriter motored to the early lead and threw down a :28.3 opening quarter before giving way to the parked out Fun On A Beach. That longshot then hit the half in :56.3 and the three-quarter pole in 1:26. Lauras Love got away sixth and remained in that position until the half. She then popped to the outside as the field headed into the final turn and quickly advanced while racing on the rim.

A :28.3 closing quarter propelled Lauras Love to the one-length decision over Chasethecloudsaway. Mary Kat rallied from far back to finish a fast-closing third in the nine-horse affair.

Trainer Pentland co-owns the three-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar-Fit N Bad with Gracie Mae Barr of Thamesford, Ont. Unraced as a rookie, Lauras Love is now 2-for-3 to kick off her career for her connections.
