Adriano Sorella’s aggressive promotion of new Ontario sire Jimmy Freight is not stopping any time soon. This week, the Guelph, Ontario-based Standardbred owner unveiled more significant news.

In December, Sorella and Woodbine Entertainment announced the creation of the Jimmy Freight Stakes. The stakes, which will be contested at Woodbine Mohawk Park, will debut in 2023 and is restricted to two-year-olds sired by Jimmy Freight. The stakes will carry a purse of $100,000, posted by Sorella.

Sorella announced this week that the two-year-old stakes event will also take place in 2024. Jimmy Freight stands at Winbak Farm of Ontario.

“I was really looking to do something different when I announced the $100,000 Jimmy Freight Stakes,” Sorella has told Ontario Racing. “It was so well received that I decided we would continue into 2024.”

In addition to announcing that the stakes event will also take place in 2024, Sorella also stated that breeder bonuses are on the way.

“I’ve been getting updates on his book and it’s a good one, so I decided to throw something else out — $20,000 in breeder bonuses for the Jimmy Freight-sired of 2020,” said Sorella. “No gimmick here, he’s got close to a full book and that’s huge for Ontario. This is my way to say, ‘thank you.’”

The $20,000 in breeder bonuses will be distributed to the breeders of leading Jimmy Freight two-year-olds in 2023 and 2024 (the distribution breakdown is to be announced).

Jimmy Freight (p,4,1:48.1s [$1,457,405]) thrilled Sorella on the racetrack. Now that he’s moved onto a stallion career, the fastest and richest son of Sportswriter is continuing to thrill his connections.

“I couldn’t imagine being happier for the response he got,” Sorella said, in regard to Jimmy Freight’s book of mares. “I did hustle, but the support was one that I truly appreciate. I’m happy for my syndicate partners and we invite others that might be interested. One thing’s for sure, I will use all my advertising potential to support my syndicate partners, Winbak and, most importantly, Jimmy Freight.”Yet another aspect of Sorella’s promotion of Jimmy Freight’s stud career is the ‘Gator’ incentive that has been announced. Those whom purchase a share in Jimmy Freight have no worse than a 1 in 40 chance of winning a brand new John Deere Gator, which is valued at roughly $17,500. For every share that is purchased, the buyer’s name is entered into the draw to win the machine.
