ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND FOR DELAWARE HORSES

Five Delaware-owned pacers are in the spotlight in major events this season from the Meadowlands, Chester Downs to the Canadian Maritime. Owner-trainer George Teague of Houston, Del. has contenders in each of three top races.

Teague conditions Allstar Legend in the biggest two-year-old event of the Summer, the $317,800 Woodrow Wilson pace at the Meadowlands, on closing night of the season at the New Jersey racetrack. Tim Tetrick, who leads the sport in wins and currently is second in the money-winning standings will drive Allstar Legend.

The resurrected Battle of the Brandywine heads a giant racecard this Sunday, the biggest day of the season at Chester Downs. Five of the eight horses in the $500,000 ‘Battle,’ the one-time showcase race at ill-fated Brandywine Raceway, have strong Delaware connections. Three of the three-year-old starters are from the Teague barn. Highly touted Custer The Dragon teamed with Montrell Teague, Wink N Atcha, driven by Yannick Gingras and Feel Like A Fool with driver Brian Sears. Roll With Joe, the season’s leading money winning sophomore, drew the rail with Ron Pierce at the controls and Powerful Mist trained by Wayne Givens with Andy Miller in the bike, complete the strong lineup.

Meanwhile, in the Canadian Maritime, George Teague’s veteran pacer Western Ace drew the outside post 9 in the $60,000 final of the Sobey's Gold Cup & Saucer on Saturday, August 20 at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Racetrack. Western Ace is nearing $1.8-million in career earnings drew an outside post. Mike Stevenson, brother of popular Delaware-trainer, Janet Davis, will drive the eight-year-old gelding.
