WINBAK-BRED SOPHOMORES  WIN THREE $100,000 DSBF FINALS

DOVER, Del.—  Three Winbak Farm of Delaware sired three-year-olds – pacers Badlands Jenna and Three Martini’s and trotter Overnight Command - won $100,000  Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) finals on the annual Governor’s day program on Thursday, July 28 during the Delaware State Fair at Harrington Raceway.

Badlands Jenny completed a two-year sweep of the $100,000 DSBF two-and-three-year old filly pace divisions with a wire-to-wire 1:55.3 score. Ben Stafford Jr. drove the daughter of Badlands Hanover-Jenna’s Joy to her fourth consecutive success and 17th victory in 22 outings for Ben Stafford, who trains and co-owns the filly with Winbak Farm. Stash The Cash (Vic Kirby) and Devil May Care (John Wagner), coupled in the wagering with Badlands Jenna, was third.

After finishing second in a Three-Year-Old Open at the Meadowlands and third in the Reynolds Stake last time out, Three Martini’s registered his 10th career win in 23 races. Montrell Teague drove the race favorite to a front-pacing 1:54.1 conquest in the $100,000 Colt and Gelding pace. Owned by Badlands Racing, Gunjan Patel and trainer George Teague, the son of Three Olives-Florina Bayama, won by 2-lenghs. Another Three Olives progeny, Dyslexic (Ross Wolfenden) stalked the winner from the start to finish second while longshot Bradleyslastride (Greg Callahan), a Badlands Hanover gelding, was third.   .

Overwhelming favorite Overnight Command broke stride on the way to the starting gait and after trailing by 12-lenghts came back to overtake seven rivals after the half mile and register a 3- length triumph in the $100,000 Filly Trot finale. Co-owned by driver Jim Morand and Nanticoke Racing, the CR Commando-Overnight Rail filly posted a 2:01.1 win, her sixth in a row this year and 10th in 13 lifetime starts for trainer Les Givens. Tokyo Oklahoma (John Wagner), also by CR Commando, was runner up with a Political Briefing filly, Political Starlet (Ross Shand), the show finisher. Overnight Command has now won $226,625 in her career.

Retired educators Lawrence and Barbara Mayer paid a modest sum for an unwanted yearling gelding they named Mob Boss. Under the conditioning of trainer Anastasias Papadopoulos, the young trotter did not race until early this season. With Bret Brittingham at the controls, Mob Boss, winner of the $100,000 this Spring at Dover Downs, won the Harrington finale easily with a 3-1/4 length triumph in 2:01.3. Obey The Command (Tony Morgan) had to settle for second with All Shoes On Deck (Roger Plante), a Crown Prince Gar gelding, third.
