USA Today previews Meadowlands Pace

USA Today's weekend edition published Friday includes a story in the sports section about Saturday's $1 million Meadowlands Pace. The story focuses on youth in the race--20-year-old Montrell Teague, who will be driving Custard The Dragon, and the efforts of Jim Carr, owner of betting favorite Big Jim, to engage children with his horse by inviting them into the winner's circle when the colt wins.

The story begins, "Youth will be served if either favored Big Jim or top contender Custard The Dragon prevails in the $1 million Meadowlands Pace on Saturday night."

Carr told writer Tom Pedulla, "When Big Jim wins, I am not as concerned about the trophy as I am with getting as many kids as I can into there and getting them a picture," he says. "Tell all the kids in the area they're invited to come on down and see Big Jim when he races at the Meadowlands — and hopefully wins — so we can all get our picture taken together."
