control early, Ride Away Shark wired her rivals in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Flamboro Downs in 1:53.4.


The Scott McNiven-trained daughter of Classic Card Shark overtook rail-starter Frog Pond Princess moving into the first turn and opened a two-and-a-quarter length lead through a :28 opening split. Ride Away Shark continued on a two-length lead moving to the half while Shewearsthepants attempted to advance first over through a :57.1 midpoint and by three-quarters in 1:25.3. Ride Away Shark strolled into the stretch one-and-a-half lengths better than Frog Pond Princess taking second while Buttermilk Hanover, circling her stalled cover rounding the final turn, rallied for third.


Owned by Kimberley McNiven and Thomas Brodhurst, Ride Away Shark, a six-year-old mare from the Dream Away mare Freedom Away, won her sixth race in 22 starts and her 21st in 132 overall, earning $309,180. Travis Henry steered the $7.80 winner.
