Media ($37.00) lifted late up the open stretch to upset in the featured $8,550 pacing event at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (March 18), while Raising Richard ($8.10) drew off comfortably in the week’s top trotting event in the nation’s capital.

In the Not Listed Preferred Pace, Stephane Lareau gave Print Media a cosy pocket trip behind D J Power (Louis-Philippe Roy) through splits of :27.1, :57.1, and 1:25. While D J Power was able to shrug off a stern first-over push from even-money favourite Stonebridge Beach (Stephane Pouliot) on the far turn, Print Media was able to reel him in up the open stretch in the final yards of a 1:54 mile.

Print Media, also trained by Lareau for owner Jacques Rousson, earned his eighth career win by three-quarters of a length over D J Power, while Stonebridge Beach faded to third.

In the $8,550 Not Listed Preferred Trot, Raising Richard was angled out from third up the far side by Darrell Coville, easily cleared pacesetter Ghirardelli Lindy (Richard Simard) on approach to the far turn, and evaded a late challenge from runner-up Windsun Hugo (Jonathan Lachance) by 2-1/2 lengths at the end of a 1:55.4 mile. Torches Angel (Roy) finished third after being shuffled mildly on the final turn.
