HARRINGTON, Del. - CC Racing and Jo Ann Looney-King's Newborn Sassy ($2.40, Victor Kirby) improved to 2-for-2 in 2017 with a 1:53 win in the $15,000 Mares Open at Harrington Raceway Tuesday.


Hostess Lisa marched to the early lead from post four in 28.1 seconds to the opening quarter mile mark and led the field of six to the half-mile in a leisurely 57.2 seconds. Favorite Newborn Sassy mounted a first-over attack to three-quarters in 1:25.3. Hostess Lisa and Newborn Sassy were heads apart at the top of the stretch until the latter finally edged clear near the finish.


A daughter of Western Ideal, "Sassy" notched her 17th win in 31 career starts for trainer Jim King Jr. Both of her seasonal wins have come at Harrington.


On the undercard, George Teague Jr., and Teague Racing Partnership's Miss Me Yet ($8.40, Montrell Teague) won a $10,000 conditioned pace in 1:53.1 for trainer Brenda Teague.

 

Jon Roberts had three wins on the program.
