The first group of two-year-olds faced the starting gate Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with Calvin K turning in a gritty victory in come-from-behind fashion for driver Jody Jamieson.

Calvin K, a son of Classic Card Shark-Road To Pandalay, got away third while Louie The Shark shot to the front and dictated the terms of the tempo. Louie The Shark strolled through panels of :30.1, 1:00.3 and 1:28.4, but he came under fierce pressure from Calvin K on the way to the three-quarter pole. Calvin K’s :27.4 closing quarter was enough to earn him the half-length score over Louie The Shark in 1:56.3. Kingston Seelster was third.

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, Calvin K looked impressive for owner/breeder Winbak Farm of Chesapeake City, MD. The colt has a number of high profile siblings including Mypanmar (1:48.3 - $1,541,581), Pang Shui (1:50.4 - $535,699) and Road Bet (1:52 - $380,315).

The tandem of trainer Richard Moreau and driver Sylvain Filion enjoyed a productive three-win night thanks to victories with Adversity (1:54.2), Intended Style (1:54.1) and Murmur Hanover (1:55.1).
