Dover, DE---John’s Dream, Hail To The Master and Cut The Beach were winner of three $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund 1st leg colt and gelding pace preliminaries to complete the first of two weeks competition prior to the $100,000 DSBF finals the last week of the meet at Dover Downs on Thursday (March 31). The 2-year-old DSBF and Virginia champion John’s Dream recorded his sixth lifetime win in nine starts scoring a 1:53.2 success in his 2016 debut as Tim Tetrick guided the triumph in the first of three 1st leg prelims. John’s Dream, a Dream Away-March On ridgling, took the lead early on the way to sixth consecutive win. Chuck Perry Jr. owns and trains the winner of $112,327 in his career. Power To Perform (Tony Morgan) took a shot at the winner heading to the final turn but had to accept second-place. Next Success (Jim Morand) was third.


Art Stafford piloted Hail To The Master home in 1:52.3 to win the second $20,000 test; The altered son of Rustler Hanover-Morepowertoya is owned by Dorothy and Chris Conner and won for the sixth time in his career in 10 races and purses of $84,300. All Artist (Jeff Fout) finished second for the fifth time nine starts lifetime. Rusty Carter (Corey Callahan) finished third.


Cut The Beach, an Artzina-I Love The Beach gelding, won for the second time this season with George Dennis steering the 1:54.2 victory. Jeff Rubin, Tom Johnson, Henry Faragalli III and Joe Thomson own the winner. Casino Bags Anso (Vince Copeland) finished second in front of Double Miles (Morand), third.


DSBF 2nd leg events are set for next week, featuring male trotter, Monday, with fillies on Tuesday, filly trotters on Wednesday and male pacers Thursday. The top 8 point-getters in each division return for $100,000 finals the last week of the meet, April 7-14.


On Thursday’s regular program, Travon, bred, owned and trained by Brenda Teague scored his second straight victory in an $11,300 3,4&5-Year-Old pace. Montrell Teague was in the bike notching his third win on the card. A son of I’m Gorgeous-Shesaknockout, Travon won in a personal best 1:52.3. The Ohio-bred was followed by Cool Reward (Morgan) and Looms The Danger (Ross Wolfenden), second and third respectively.


Leyden, who just missed in his previous two races, final got to the winner’s circle when Ross Wolfenden directed a 1:50.1 lifetime best victory in a $10,500 Male pace for breeder, owner-trainer William Moffett of the Quik Pulse Mindale-Staying Power gelding. $1-million winner, Feel Like A Fool (Callahan) was second with Shadow Margeaux (Dennis) third.


Montrell Teague and Art Stafford Jr. led all drivers with three wins each. George Dennis, Ross Wolfenden, Sean Bier and trainer-owner Brenda Teague had doubles.


Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. Dover Downs is dark on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
