After racing in the shadow of the streaking Betit To Getit for the past two weeks in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace, Ms Mac N Cheese tracked down that rival and held off stablemate Sandbetweenurtoes to win the Friday night (Jan. 29) feature at Woodbine Racetrack.

Ms Mac N Cheese, driven for the first time by Jonathan Drury, and Sandbetweenurtoes swept the top two spots in the Mares Preferred for Richard Moreau, Canada's two-time defending Trainer of the Year and 2015 O'Brien Award finalist, but not before a brief delay to the start of the race.

The delay occurred after a recall when Jody Jamieson, the driver of Sandbetweenurtoes, reported his mount had lost a shoe as the gate began to roll. Sandbetweenurtoes was taken to the paddock to resolve the issue, causing a short delay to the third race feature and prompting the rest of the field to return to the paddock for the duration of the shoe repair.

'Take two' of the Mares Preferred began with Ms Mac N Cheese sprinting across the track from her outside post six to establish the lead through a :26.3 first quarter. However, Waasmula (Trevor Henry) made a quarter-pole move and looped the early speedster with 3-5 favourite Betit To Getit (Rick Zeron) hot on her heels. Betit To Getit cleared to command down the backstretch past the :54.4 half-mile marker and then led the mares past three-quarters in 1:23.2. The field followed in single-file alignment before Ms Mac N Cheese was flushed back out at the third quarter pole and overtook Betit To Getit as they raced into the stretch. Betit To Getit tried to fight back on the inside while Sandbetweenurtoes closed late down the stretch, but Ms Mac N Cheese prevailed by a neck in 1:52.1, equalling her lifetime mark. She paid $9.90 to win as the 4-1 third choice on the toteboard.

Ms Mac N Cheese is a four-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover, who now has 15 career wins, nine seconds and four thirds from 36 starts. The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate went over the $400,000 mark in purse earnings with tonight's victory for Nova Scotia-based owner David Ratchford, who had paid just $10,000 at the Harrisburg Sale for the mare when she was a yearling.
