Happy Becky improved to three-for-three capturing the second leg of the Whenuwishuponastar Series Thursday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

Leg one winner, The Show Returns, elected to sit out the $12,000 second leg and Happy Becky, who did not race in leg one, stepped in as the 3-5 favourite and cruised to victory in 1:53.

Happy Becky and driver Chris Christoforou got away fifth around the first turn, but made a powerful backside brush to the lead in the second quarter. After overtaking the lead at the half in :57.2, Happy Becky posted a :28. third-quarter, followed by an easy looking :27.3 final panel to win by a length and a half over Our Hot Majorette. Float On By finished just ahead of Macarena Mama in a show photograph, but eight lengths back of the winner.

Happy Becky dropped more than a second off her previous career best for trainer Casie Coleman. The daughter of Cams Card Shark–Happy Doris now has earnings of $18,000 for owners West Win Stables, Bob Darrow, Ron Broadstone and David Miller.

Leg one winner, The Show Returns, is expected to return for next week’s final setting up a potential showdown between the two winners. The final of the Whenuwishuponastar Series goes Thursday, August 7 at Mohawk for a purse of $37,800.
