Delaware Breeders legs for 2YO fillies held at Dover
The public choices responded with impressive victories in four Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) first leg preliminaries, each worth $20,000, for 2-year-old fillies at Dover Downs on Saturday, Nov. 19. Meet-leading driver Corey Callahan had three winners.
Alleigh Girl made it five straight wins, romping to a easy 2:01.3 triumph in the first DSBF prelim. The outcome was never in doubt after Ross Wolfenden took the Don Boss Vita-Armbro Odalisk brown filly right to the top for trainer Les Givens and owners Delbert Cain and Nanticoke Racing.
Alleigh Girl has won six of her eight races and never been farther back than third while now banking $91,440. Commitment To Win (Roger Plante) was second best. Great Quantity (Jeff Fout) finished third.
The other DSBF frosh trot was all JA’s Charmer, with Vic Kirby steering a 2:05.1 win. It was the third win in seven outing for the John Wagner-trained CR Commando-Anastasia JA lass owned by Pamela Wagner. She has now won $40,300 in 2011 purses.
Aslee’s Sunrise (Art Stafford Jr.) was runner-up in front of LaVita Loca Rusty (Brad Hanners), who rallied after breaking stride on the first turn to come back to take show money.
The fastest of the three $20,000 filly paces was No Picnic, a daughter of Badlands Hanover-Michiko, who was a 1:56.2 winner. No Picnic recorded her fourth win of the campaign in eight starts for Badlands Racing and LeBlanc Racing. The Steve LeBlanc trainee has now collected $57,871 in her brief career.
Joyanna (Ben Stafford) finished second with Powergirl’s Z Tam (Corey Callahan) the third-place finisher.
Designer Bags turned in an impressive victory also. The Roddy’s Bags Again-Alyshima freshman was all alone at the finish in a 1:56.4 mile with Allan Davis at the controls. Ed Walls owns the filly conditioned by David Rearic. Designer Bags has now won six of eight races and $83,727 in her rookie season. Genie’s Genie (Tony Morgan) and Grix Gadoo (Eddie Davis Jr.) followed in second and third, respectively.
Mary Martin’s homebred Mac’s Journey is a maiden no more. The Badlands Hanover-Mac’s Only Iris filly was second-favorite in the race and was steered to a 1:57 victor by Sean Bier. Prior to this start Mac’s Journey had a pair of seconds in nine starts for trainer Clarence Martin Jr.
The race favorite, Karen’s Assets (Jon Roberts), was second. Ann’s Obsession (Bryan Truitt) was the third-place finisher.
On the regular program, Brad Hanners chalked up his second win on the card in a $15,000 pace for 3-5 year olds, driving Win A New Day to a 1:54.2 victory for Mike Casalino and trainer Dylan Davis. It was the Dawn Ofa New Day-Jentina Ken Win gelding’s 10th win this year. He has won $57,245 this season. Nights Camera (George Dennis) was next with Zampano (John MacKinnon) third.
Two $32,745 Matron Three-Year-Old Colt and Gelding pace elims and four DSBF colt and gelding first-leg prelims headline a strong Sunday race program. (Dover)
