There’s little doubt there could be a sub-1:50 speed sighting Saturday evening at Mohawk Racetrack considering the star power that will be on display, but who would have guessed a pair of sub-1:50 performances would have popped up over the oval on a Tuesday night?

Emerald Lexus was the first to do the deed thanks to his three-length triumph against claiming foes in Race 7. Doug McNair rallied the Victory Puddy pupil to the 1:49.3 score over Shipps Xpectancy and Hopetobefirst.

Racing for a price tag of $8,000, Emerald Lexus won for the fourth time this season and for the 15th time in his career. The career winner of $123,385 is owned by Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ontario.

McNair was back to victory lane two races later with Shadios, who ripped off a 1:49.4 score in his $20,000 assignment. The three-year-old son of Shadow Play-Smooth Latin N enjoyed a two-hole trip through first half fractions of :26.3 and :54.3, but he powered to the lead and took the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.4. A :27-second closing panel earned him the win by 5-3/4 lengths in a career-best clocking of 1:49.4. Regal Son was next best, with Andreios Kardia and Shadowbriand finishing in a dead-heat for third.

Tony Alagna trains the gelding for owner Tom Hill of Lancashire, Great Britain, and together they’ve watched the pacer pile up a 5-for-9 record this season on top of $45,860 in purse earnings. The six-time winner has banked more than $60,000 to date.
