Dover, DE --- Sonofa Sizzle, Dashboard and Smoking Joey won opening $20,000 legs of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) for 2-year-old pacers on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Dover Downs. Corey Callahan and Vic Kirby drove three winners each.


After an impressive qualifying win, Mike White’s Sonofa Sizzle dominated the first of three $20,000 colt and gelding paces. With Corey Callahan in the bike driving the first of his two DSBF winners, the Life Sizzles-JK Lady Like colt recorded a 1:53.3 victory. The colt is fresh from a second-place finish after sweeping both of his Harrington prelims last month. Roddy’s Hot Again (George Dennis) was second best with Rigged To Go (Ross Wolfenden) the show horse.


Callahan’s other DSBF win came driving Howard Taylor’s Smoking Joey home in 1:54.2. The Riggins-You Don’t Know Me gelding was followed by Tough Tinsel (Tony Morgan) and KJ Ben (Art Stafford Jr.).


Dashboard, trained by Rich Ringler for owners Joann King and Maria Ringler, was a 1:56.2 winner in the other $20,000 DSBF male pace. Trace Tetrick piloted the altered son of Rustler Hanover-Top Of The World besting Art Season (Allan Davis), and Da Chief (Callahan), second and third respectively.


The second DSBF leg for freshman male pacers is set for next Sunday. After two legs, the top eight point-getters meet in a $100,000 final on Dec. 7.


In addition to Callahan and Kirby with three wins, Trace Tetrick, Allan Davis and trainers Joe Hundertpfund and Doug Lewis haltered two winners each.


The DSBF filly pacers begin their two weeks of $20,000 preliminaries on Monday sharing the spotlight with an $18,000 Mares Open pace. 


This week only, there is racing Monday through Wednesday beginning with a 4:30 p.m. post. There is no racing this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day and as usual no live racing Friday and Saturday. Sunday Racing starts at 5:30 p.m.
