Dover, DE --- After two weeks of preliminaries, the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund filly pace and trot division's top eight qualifiers match strides in two $100,000 finals on Wednesday, April 13, at Dover Downs. First post is at 4:30 p.m.
Badlands Jenna sailed through her two pacing prelims to begin her sophomore season. Ben Stafford, Jr. was in the bike for owners Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm. She now has 12 lifetime wins in 14 races, with two seconds. Devil May Care is coupled with Badlands Jenna in the wagering for the final.
Chief rival is JoAnn King’s Allie Oakley, trained by Jim King and driven by Tim Tetrick. Also a part of the JoAnn King-owned entry is Sarah Barracuda with Jim King driving.
The other challengers in the filly pace are Warren Racing and trainer Jeff Long’s Stash The Cash with Daryl Bier; Winsmith Jess racing for Scott Woogen, Brenda Messenger and Philip Shapiro with Ron Pierce driving; Ken Mitchell and trainer Freida Ivory’s Beach Frenzy reined by George Dennis; and Apache Star, making her third career start. The first foal of former Dover Downs Horse of the Meet, Apache Dame, will be driven by Corey Callahan.
In the $100,000 filly trot, Overnight Command, with co-owner and driver Jim Morand and Nanticoke Racing, has won her last five races. Ben Kenney’s Tokyo Oklahoma drew the rail for trainer-driver John Wagner. Walt and Deb Bozman’s Brickhouse Rosey was a 19-1 prelim longshot last week with George Dennis at the controls.
The other contenders are Allan Pullman and driver Eddie Davis’ SBS Commando; Now Virginia with Brad Hanners driving for LeBlanc Racing and Winbak Farm; Bill and Betty Chambers’ homebred Sweet Apple Cider and Roger Plante; Eli Beiler’s Joyful Anna handled by Carlo Poliseno; and from post eight, Jay Baxter’s Montabello Brandi in rein to Vince Copeland.
Thursday is closing day of the Dover Downs season. Two $100,000 DSBF finals for males share the feature race role.
