Dover, DE--The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) moves into the final preliminary stage with two filly paces and two trotting divisions on Wednesday (April 6) at Dover Downs. First post is at 4:30 p.m.
In the $20,000 filly pace divisions, Badlands Jenna began her sophomore season with a victory last week with Ben Stafford Jr. driving for owners Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm, in the first 3-year-old prelim. It was her 11th career win in 13 races. JoAnn King’s Allie Oakley just missed by a nose last week for Jim King. Baron and Green racings’ Miss Badlands, steered by Corey Callahan, was victor of broken equipment last Wednesday. Louie Paglierani’s homebred Bea Bad Yankee with Ross Wolfenden and Joan Hamstead’s Fouralarmfire (Vic Kirby) complete the field.
Driver John Wagner and Winbak Farm’s Devil May Care, winner of a prelim last time, leads six to post in the second DSBF section. Ken Mitchell and trainer Freida Ivory’s Beach Frenzy (George Dennis), JoAnn King’s Sarah Barracuda (Jim King) and Myers and Carter racing’s What Rusty (Eddie Davis Jr.) head the opposition.
In the toughest of two $20,000 filly trots, Overnight Command, driven by Jim Morand for Nanticoke Racing and driver Jim Morand and Ben Kenney’s Tokyo Oklahoma handled by John Wagner won last week’s prelims. Allan Pullman and driver Eddie Davis’ SBS Commando turned in a second-place finish. Serendipity Stable’s Political Starlet, driven by Ross Shand, bumped the starting gate and broke stride last week.
The other $20,000 filly trot is up for grabs. LeBlanc Racing and Winbak Farm’s Now Virginia (Brad Hanners) finished second while Eli Beiler’s Joyful Anna (Carlos Poliseno) and Bill and Betty Chambers’ Sweet Apple Cider (Roger Plante), third-place finishers, are leading contenders.
