g>Misti Maiden fastest in Celias Counsel elims

Toronto, ON --- A pair of C$20,000 Celias Counsel eliminations for 3-year-old trotting fillies took place tonight at Woodbine with Misti Maiden and Surveillance taking home top honors.

Misti Maiden, driven by Jack Moiseyev, front-stepped her way to a 1:59 score in the first elimination. The daughter of Angus Hall left cleared to the lead in the early going, ahead of Savanah Dream (Jean Pierre Dubois) and Momentous (James MacDonald) before the opening split in :29.4.

From there, the 2-5 second choice went unharmed past the half in 1:01 and three-quarters in 1:30.1. As the field went past three-quarters, Momentous, who was sitting third, angled to the outside to pass Savanah Dream and be within two-lengths of the tempo-setter at the top of the stretch. The pair separated themselves from the rest of the field in the final eighth-of-a-mile with Misti Maiden prevailing by three-quarters of a length. Magical Paige (Paul MacDonell) came from off-the-pace to finish third, ahead of Savanah Dream.

Trained by Frank Colville, Misti Maiden captured her first victory of her young career and increased her lifetime earnings to $14,080. The Mo N Jo Stable, Peter Goldberg, Murray Goldberg and Michael Seidman share ownership.

In the second elimination, Surveillance (Jody Jamieson) took over command past the quarter and never looked back to make her lifetime debut a winning one in 2:00.

Nuriev Dream (Jean Pierre Dubois) cleared to the lead ahead of Sunday Dream (J. R Plante) before the first quarter in :30.1. Heading towards the half, the parked out Surveillance finally made the front and layed down panels of 1:00 and 1:30. Going into the final turn, Harlow Seelster (Jason Brewer) began the first-over attack and was at the leader’s wheel at the top of the stretch.

At the top of the stretch, Jamieson asked his charge for more trot and the daughter of Amigo Hall responded with a :30 final-quarter to seal the victory by over a length. Harlow Seelster stayed for second over a well-beaten Nuriev Dream, who finished third.

Trained by Bill James, Surveillance now has C$10,000 earned for W G James Stables Ltd and has selected post three for the C$60,000 final.
