Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund prelims start Wednesday
Dover, DE --- The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund kicks off its 2011 campaign on Wednesday (March 30) with four divisions of an all filly opening round at Dover Downs. First post is at 4:30 p.m.
A pair of $20,000 filly trots are the daily double races on the program. Overnight Command, the winner of last fall’s freshman $100,000 final, drew the rail for owner Nanticoke Racing and driver Jim Morand. LeBlanc Racing and Winbak Farm own Now Virginia with Brad Hanners, and Sweet Apple Cider, driven by Roger Plante for Bill and Dolly Chambers, are the leading rivals.
In the second race, Serendipity Stable’s Political Starlet, handled by Ross Shand, won the Harrington $100,000 finale. Ben Kenney’s Tokyo Oklahoma, steered by John Wagner, came of age in her races at Dover and SBS Commando, reined by Eddie Davis, in one of his rare driving appearances, head the opposition.
In $20,000 filly pace divisions, Badlands Jenna (Ben Stafford, Jr.), winner of both DSBF 2-year-old $100,000 finals for owners Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm, heads one soph prelim. Baron and Green Racings’ Miss Badlands (Corey Callahan) and Warren Racing and trainer Jeff Long’s Stash The Cash (Daryl Bier) head the opposition.
The other division is led by the consistent Allie Oakley (Jim King). Devil May Care, racing for trainer-driver John Wagner and Winbak Farm, and Bea Bad Yankee (Ross Wolfenden), owned by Louie Paglierani, are leading contenders.
