With eight wins as a freshman and a trainer-owner who has previously captured this event, Delmarvalous solidified himself as a top 10 selection for Trot Magazine's Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book.

Throughout the course of the week, the SC website will countdown to the Spring Book favourite, complete with updates from the trainers on the pacers that Trot staff assessed as the leading contenders for the richest prize in Canadian harness racing. With odds of 18-1, Delmarvalous comes in at #6 in the NA Cup Spring Book Top 10. Trot Insider caught up with trainer George Teague for an update on the colt's progress.

Where did he spend the winter and what has he been like coming back?

"He wintered really well at home on the farm here in Delaware. He's been coming back really well."

Have you noticed any changes in the horse compared to last year?

"He was able to get a little bit of extra weight put on him over the course of the winter. It was a rough winter for us here (in Delaware) this year -- it wasn't as easy as what it usually is. With that being said, it's not the easiest to give an assessment of these horses in terms of an analysis of their times and miles at this point."

What is the timeline like for him leading up to the Cup, including qualifiers and prep races?

"We'll probably qualify him in April in order to race him in May -- we're looking to crank him up in May. I think he'll be going to the Hempt and then up to Ontario for the Burlington and then the North America Cup."
