Gilles Barrieau trainee Mc Pat found his way back to the winner's circle at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday (Oct. 23) in winning the featured $3,200 Preferred Pace.

Mc Pat was sent hard to the lead in the feature by catch driver Adam Merner as the Barrieau trainee went all the way to win in 1:53.4 for his fastest win of the season. Chocolate Swirl (Driven by Marc Campbell) was second ahead of Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie) while favourite Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd) finished fourth.

A five-year-old son of Delmarvalous, Mc Pat is co-owned by Everette Hanson of Maugerville along with fellow New Brunswick resident Donald Stevenson of Fredericton.

The $2,800 final dash of the card was more of the same but with different tactics as trainer Barrieau and driver Merner teamed up to convert a two-hole ride to victory in 1:56.3. Visiting the winner’s circle for the 47th time of his career, The Rev took the garden journey in that event sitting second behind Burn Out Hanover (Kenny Arsenault) and sprinting hard down the stretch for the three-quarter-length win over Soccer Hanover (Ken Murphy) and Taladega Seelster (Campbell).

Those victories were part of a driving triple for Merner, who also scored with Bridge Token in 1:59 from the Melissa Rennie stable.

Race 3 of the day was in Memory Of Jerome Campbell as Spack Jarrow had a lifetime-best performance of 1:55.1 winning for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Raymond White and owner Mike Slana of Belfast.

Live racing continues on P.E.I. Monday evening (Oct. 25) at 6:30 P.M. at Red Shores Summerside.
