Where's Waldo finds Tompkins-Geers winner's circle

Tuesday, July 21, 2009  By: Tioga Downs

Where’s Waldo and Josh Marks captured the lone Tompkins-Geers division for 3-year-old colt pacers on Monday night at Tioga Downs.

The duo rolled out of post position four to trip the teletimer in :26.4 before relinquishing the lead to favorite Hay Goodlooking (Gates Brunet). Hay Goodlooking paced through fractions of :55 and 1:23.1 as Marks and Where’s Waldo loomed in the pocket anxiously. At the top of the stretch Josh Marks tipped Where’s Waldo to the outside and sprinted past Hay Goodlooking to score in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.3.

The 3-year old son of Bettor’s Delight-Mystical Trick is trained by Linda Toscano for Ken Jacobs of Baldwinsville, N.Y. It was the third win in seven seasonal starts for Where’s Waldo who with the victory increased his 2009 earnings to more than $61,000.   “I thought if we sat on his back (Hay Goodlooking) that we could pick him up down the stretch,” said Jacobs in the winner’s circle following the victory.

Brandnewgirlfriend continued her six-race win streak in the second division of the Tompkins-Geers for 3-year old trotting fillies. Brian Mattison sent the 3-year old daughter of Conway Hall-Tiffany Gold to the front from post position eight and never looked back scoring in 1:57. Brandnewgirlfriend, who was unraced as a 2 year old, has won eight of nine starts in her sophomore year for trainer Paul Kelley, and has seasonal earnings of more than $110,000.

“She will stay in New York state and go through the program, and we will just keep our fingers crossed,” said Paul Kelley on the future of his 3-year old trotting filly.

Michelle’s Way and Jim Morrill Jr. captured the other division for 3-year old trotting fillies in 1:57.3.

Morrill posted a driving triple on the night’s 11-race card, giving him sixteen wins at Tioga Downs in the last four race days. (Tioga Downs)
