Maryland Standardbred Owners and Breeders support Cordish

Thursday, December 17, 2009  By: Sharon Roberts

Temple Hills, MD --- The governing Boards of the Maryland Standardbred Owners and the Maryland Standardbred Breeders Associations today announced their support of David Cordish’s efforts to secure zoning for his planned slots casino.

The Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association’s President Thomas Cooke made the following statement: “The CSOA Board of Directors has long favored the location of slots at racetracks. Given the current economic conditions, the need for slots revenue at the earliest possible time and the fact that Mr. David Cordish has been acknowledged by the Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission as the only qualified bidder, the CSOA Board supports Mr. Cordish in his efforts.”

Maryland Standardbred Breeders President Ralph Hayward said, “The racing industry and the State of Maryland needs the revenues that will be generated by Mr. Cordish’s casino. He must be allowed to move forward without any further delays. The legislature has spoken, the people have spoken, the Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission has spoken and it is now time for action.”

The Cloverleaf Enterprises Board of Directors will take up the matter Friday night and is expected to follow suit.
