Powerful Toy, Badlands Hanover Fillies Win $20,000 DSBF 3-Year-Old Filly Prelims

Sunday, March 22, 2009  By: Marv Bachrad

DOVER, Del--- The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Three-Year-Old Fill Pace preliminaries got underway with daughters of Powerful Toy and Badlands Hanover - Tom's Toy and Little Bit Tricky - winning $20,000 divisions on Sunday, March 22 at Dover Downs.

Tom's Toy, a Powerful Toy-Glowing Hans bay filly, the DSBF two-year-old winner of the $100,000 final, breezed to a 1:55 victory in the first $20,000 three-year-old filly pace division. Corey Callahan drove the Tom Cooke-owned winner for trainer Roger Hans to her fifth win in 10 career races. A Badlands Hanover filly, Go Jackie Jo driven by Vince Copeland sat second for the entire route.

In another $20,000 DSBF filly prelim, Eric Goodell left quickly with Little Bit Tricky from post 8 to find room second behind race favorite Rusty's Joy (Eddie Davis Jr.). Rusty's Joy, a Badlands Hanover filly, led the rest of the mile until the final steps when Little Bit Tricky finally caught the leader after a stretch-long duel to the wire in 1:55.3. CJ's Crystal (Roger Plante), sired by Powerful Toy, picked up third money. Jim and Bill Outten and Green Racing own the Badlands Hanover-Bit Of Trick sophomore.

The second prelim leg is set for Sunday, March 29. The top eight finishers after the two weeks of prelims race in the $100,000 DSBF Final on Monday, Aug. 6.
